The Replacements
Erin had to fly out to do a show at her college reunion, and Abbi had to go back to NYC to rehearse and perform with UCB (Upright Citizen’s Brigade.) So I brought in two very talented comics out of NC, Blayr Nias and Jenny Chalikian. Jenny and I came up together in the NC comedy scene, she’s a former rugby player with a dry wit who doesn’t hesitate to beat me up physically or verbally. Blayr is a high energy, up and coming comic who describes herself on twitter “I am bipolar. My boyfriend is white. My mom is insane.” She is also VERY funny.
Jenny showed up to the show 10 minutes before we the show because she knows me and likes to watch me sweat blood. Blayr got there 4 hours before show time because she is a professional and also a nice person. We performed for another 6pm grandmother convention, the old people clapped politely at our new age jokes and we sold a lot of buttons. Many of the ladies didn’t get our jokes, but they got that we were young and struggling to get by.
After the show Carrie helpfully pointed out that it was only 8pm and we could start drinking right away. We went to Monza’s pizza for white wine and pizza, then we moved on to Burns Alley where we combined dairy products and whiskey. We ended the night snacking and drinking back at the dorm. High lights of the night include showing Jenny my twattoo, watching Carrie cram herself into the dishwasher “just cause” and listening to Blayr talk about American history as taught by nuns in Boston.
